Learn about the new release and what is in development

Why Cascade 2.0?

Cascade puts data front and center in the conversation on decarbonization so we can focus on solutions. This “why” hasn’t changed, and we believe Cascade 2.0 offers users a more tailored and actionable experience that better reflect unique conditions found across the globe.

We are excited to launch a new version of the Boeing Cascade Climate Impact Model—Cascade 2.0—focused on helping you leverage credible data to explore foundational topics in aviation sustainability and answer the industry’s most pressing questions. This latest version is our most powerful yet, offering a dynamic way to analyze aviation’s path to net-zero emissions.

What are we releasing today?

As part of today’s release, Cascade 2.0 introduces several key enhancements to ensure it is more comprehensive, customizable and user centric.

To enable both new users and experts alike to develop a path to decarbonizing aviation, each of the five decarbonization strategies can be modified at a high-level by setting an ambition level, or at the detailed level, by customizing specific parameters. As a result, Cascade users, regardless of level of expertise, can build pathways to net zero.

Some specific examples of the customization now available to users includes the ability to modify SAF feedstocks, introduce hydrogen and electric aircraft in market segments, and change units seamlessly. We recognize that decarbonization strategies must be tailored to the specific conditions of each region. As a result, users can now filter to a specific aircraft type or region of the world.

To enhance collaboration and dissemination, users can now create and share links to their scenarios, as well as access saved scenarios in a user-friendly dashboard.

For those new to Cascade, the “Getting Started” insight guides new users through exploring decarbonization strategies and their impact on emissions.

What is next for Cascade?

We are developing Cascade using an agile philosophy, adding new capabilities and features in incremental steps to ensure continuous improvement. Throughout the development of Cascade, we have been collecting feedback from users and have used the feedback to make Cascade better. We plan to continue collecting feedback and enhancing its capabilities throughout 2025.
